What you’re saying is that I have no right to call myself a conservative because of one issue that is particularly grinding your gears.
I understand the conservative values and I agree with the majority of them. The one I don’t understand and support is gay marriage due to the fact that it is disrespecting a person, causing discrimination, and telling a person how to live their life. It does not make sense to me that I can support a person having the choice to wield a gun (which could have detrimental effects to my life and health if they turn out to be a criminal or use it unsafely) or stop abortions (something that is causing direct harm to an unborn person aka murder, damage to the mother in every sense of the word, and harm to those around her) or teaching morals and values to respect the people around you (so we don’t have a bunch of blockheads running around thinking it’s perfectly okay to trip your friends or stab little Johnny if he takes your block as well as the adult equivalents), but it’s wrong to support a person in LOVE. Liberal sounding as it may be, it’s one thing that does not fit in with my personal philosophy of life.
I would actually not find it ridiculous to see the crossover between who does and does not support gay marriage, whether it be on a conservative or a liberal blog. I have very liberal friends who don’t support gay marriage and I have very conservative friends who do support gay marriage. It isn’t, as you so eloquently put it, the “dumbest” thing ever. It’s called thinking for yourself and making a decision based upon your real-life experience, personal beliefs, and morals and values. And If someone is going to attack with hate mail, it just shows their own lack of self-esteem that they feel the need to bring down someone else instead of having an informed, intelligent conversation.
I have no problem with you standing up for conservative values, values that I support nearly 100%, but I think it’s extremely close-minded for you to think that simply because one person identifies with a particular politically leaning or way of life that they are ever going to be 100% happy with it. To think that a large group of people think the exact same thing and agree upon everything is just a lack of social understanding and respect for the individual. Just because you follow, doesn’t mean you always agree and on this one particular matter, I do not. If you do agree with every conservative value 100%, I’m glad for you and I’m happy to see you stand by your own set of morals, values, and beliefs.
As for me, I am going to keep publishing my blog like I have been for quite some time now and it’s your choice if you want to read it. I’m not going to sit here and try to convince you to change your mind to read my blog and you’re certainly not convincing me to a) change my blog name or b) change my mind. Think what you want to think, despise my blog, and move along into cyberspace where I am sure there are plenty of blogs that fall more in-line with your own beliefs. Or better yet, come off anonymous and make your own blog. You seem to have some strong opinions and stances so why be locked down into a gray faceless box. You clearly do not mind writing to support your beliefs as you seem set on posting to my blog, so why not start your own. I’m sure both of these options would be a more productive way to spend your time, but again, it’s your decision.
